Fans Ask For Tilda Swinton In “Labyrinth 2”

Earlier this week came word that TriStar Pictures is moving forward with plans for a sequel to Jim Henson’s classic fantasy feature “Labyrinth” and have snagged “Doctor Strange” director Scott Derrickson to helm.

With that announcement, talk online quickly turned to speculation about who will take over the role of the Goblin King Jareth and Tilda Swinton’s name was brought into the conversation both on social media and among entertainment outlets such as Metro. The reaction so far has been an apparent outpouring of fan support.

The casting isn’t that much out of left field. Derrickson and Swinton worked together on “Doctor Strange,” while Swinton and Bowie worked on a promotional video for Bowie’s song “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” in which the pair played a couple.

Maggie Levin is penning the screenplay for the new “Labyrinth,” and it’s not clear as yet when it will go into production.
