Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO and many other Hollywood studios and distributors have taken a stand on social media in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Their public support comes amidst ongoing nationwide protests over the shocking death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers. Netflix tweeted: “To be silent is to be complicit. Black lives matter. We have a platform, and we have a duty to our Black members, employees, creators and talent to speak up.”
YouTube posted a similar sentiment saying: “We stand in solidarity against racism and violence. When members of our community hurt, we all hurt. We’re pledging $1M in support of efforts to address social injustice.”
Protests continue to gain momentum throughout the nation, now in their fifth day, in dozens of cities around the United States as the National Guard has been deployed to Los Angeles following Governor Gavin Newsom declaring a state of emergency and curfews were imposed..
