Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television are reportedly developing a TV series focusing on the iconic character of Lisbeth Salander, the female hacker at the center of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trillogy which began with “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”.
The series, titled “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” is not a new adaptation nor is it a sequel or continuation of the story from either the original Swedish language film trilogy that began in 2009 starring Rooney Mara, David Fincher’s 2011 Hollywood adaptation starring Rooney Mara, or the 2018 “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” film with Claire Foy.
Instead, the story will take Salander and place her in today’s world with a wholly new setting, new characters, and a new story. No writer or lead actress is currently attached to the Amazon series but Rob Bullock and Left Bank Pictures’ founder Andy Harries (“The Crown,” “Outlander,” “The Night Manager”) will executive produce.
The books in the series have sold more than 100 million copies combined worldwide.
