Ayer Responds To “Suicide Squad” Fan Push

In the wake of the news about “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” for HBO Max, conversation has quickly been generated on social media about other heavily compromised films that deserve a similar style retooling.

Chief amongst those being talked about is David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad” with the hashtag #ReleaseTheAyerCut trending after the “Justice League” announcement.

Ayer in the past has tweeted about his desire to release his original vision of the DC Comics adaptation. Following the Snyder Cut announcement, Ayer posted cryptic tweets about “Suicide Squad” and then responded to a fan asking what it would take to be made:

” It is simply not my call or my IP. I love WB – it’s always been my ‘home studio’ I fully respect and support the incredible path the DCU is taking under their stewardship. My cut of Suicide Squad may always be just a rumor. And that’s just fine.”

Unlike the Snyder Cut which will cost tens of millions to finish off, Ayer’s director’s cut of “Suicide Squad” could be assembled and released faster as it’s far more complete. Ayer effectively finished his film before it was subsequently chopped up and edited back together by the studio and the company Trailer Park in an effort to make it lighter. However the studio still has Ayer’s cut.
