Chuck Hayward is penning and Bille Woodruff (“Beauty Shop”) is attached to direct a contemporary reimagining of the 1991 coming-of-age comedy “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” at Treehouse Pictures.
Christina Applegate, Joanna Cassidy, Josh Charles and David Duchovny starred in the original about a teenager forced to take charge of her four younger siblings when their mom leaves town and the wicked babysitter her mother hired suddenly dies shortly after the mother’s departure.
The film was a bit of a flop at the time but has since amassed a major cult following. Hayward’s take is said to be a present-day re-telling centered on a black family.
Oren Segal, Justin Nappi and Juliet Berman are producing.
