Don’t Expect More “Black Mirror” Anytime Soon

Since the coronavirus pandemic began, there have been many comparisons made between the current state of the world and episodes of Charlie Brooker’s acclaimed and darkly satirical sci-fi anthology series “Black Mirror”.

So what does Brooker himself have to say about the situation, could he turn what’s happening into more episodes of the show? Speaking to the Radio Times (via IndieWire) recently, Brooker says that he’s working more on comedies at the moment because stories about societal collapse aren’t likely to be welcomed right now:

“I’ve been busy doing things. I don’t know what I can say about what I’m doing and not doing. At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on any on of those [‘Black Mirror’ episodes]. I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.”

The fifth season of the show premiered on Netflix in June, and this suggests there won’t be any more episodes for at least a good year or two to come.
