Thirty five years after its release, the cast of the Richard Donner-directed, Chris Columbus-written and Steven Spielberg-produced family classic “The Goonies” reunited for Josh Gad’s new video series “Reunited Apart” earlier today.
Cast including Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Ke-Huy Quan, Martha Plimpton, Joe Pantoliano, and Kerri Green all participated in the broadcast – re-enacting scenes from the movie and discussed their memories of it in addition to sharing updates on their lives today.
Spielberg himself addressed long-standing rumors of a possible sequel being in the works – talk that has been happening on and off over many years. Turns out the talk is true but an actual film hasn’t really progressed as yet. Spielberg says:
“Chris [Columbus, The Goonies screenwriter], Dick, and I – and Lauren [Shuler Donner] – have had a lot of conversations about it. Every couple of years we come up with an idea but then it doesn’t hold water. Until we do, people are just going to have to look at this [livestream] a hundred times!”
Donner jokingly added: “How are you going to find seven miserable kids like this again that are new and fresh?”. “The Goonies” episode of “Reunited Apart” raised funds for the Center for Disaster Philanthropy in support of their COVID-19 Response Fund.
Spielberg’s Amblin Television recently announced a new untitled drama series for FOX which will feature a group of aspiring young filmmakers as they attempt to recreate “The Goonies” shot-by-shot.
