“Extraction” Sequel Possibilities Discussed

The Chris Hemsworth-led action film “Extraction” hit Netflix on Friday, quickly proving a success on social media in a time when few movies are released. Reviews were mixed/positive, with the film’s action and stunt work praised.

Helmed by Sam Hargrave and produced by Joe & Anthony Russo, Hemsworth plays mercenary Tyler Rake who must rescue a young boy trapped by kidnappers inside one of the world’s most impenetrable cities and wanted in a war between notorious drug lords. The film has had a lot of publicity, mostly for its extraordinary twelve-minute single shot action sequence.

Recently Hargrave confirmed the possibility of the film serving as the launch vehicle of a potential franchise had been discussed. Speaking with Digital Spy the other week, he says:

“We’re all going to wait to see how fans react to the film, and based on that, there have been discussions of different storylines that could take place in different times – both forward in time and backwards in time. We’re just waiting to see what happens, and to see how the appetite is for these characters and for this film, and then we’ll make our decision. But there definitely have been discussions of broadening this world, for sure.”

At present there has been no actual movement on a potential sequel. Netflix hasn’t announced numbers for how well the film has done as yet though the film jumped to the #1 spot in both movies and overall quickly after its release.
