Lawrence To Helm “Hunger Games” Prequel

Francis Lawrence, who has helmed all sequels in “The Hunger Games” film franchise, will return to helm the prequel “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” at Lionsgate.

Based on Suzanne Collins’ new Scholastic novel, which will be available for sale on May 19th, she will co-write the script with Michael Arndt.

The prequel movie will focus on Coriolanus Snow at age 18, years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem. Young Coriolanus is handsome and charming, and though the Snow family has fallen on hard times.

He soon sees a chance for a change in his fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor for the Tenth Hunger Games… only to have his elation dashed when he is assigned to mentor the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.

No casting as yet with pre-production expected to resume after the COVID-19 pandemic has passed. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will produce.

Lionsgate adapted Collins’ original “Hunger Games” book trilogy into four feature films that grossed close $3 billion worldwide.
