BOOM! Studios & Netflix Set First Look Deal

Netflix has closed a first-look deal with comic book publisher BOOM! Studios, a deal covering live-action and animated series.

This gives Netflix access to one of the largest libraries of comic book IP outside of Marvel and DC. BOOM! owns such comic titles as “Lumberjanes,” “Something is Killing the Children,” “Once & Future” and “Mouse Guard”.

They currently have a deal setup at 20th Century Studios where a film adaptation of “The Unsound” was in the works last year, while their $150 million animated movie adaptation of “Mouse Guard” was cancelled following the Disney merger. That deal ends in January with only the supernatural thriller “The Empty Man” coming later this year to show for it.

They’re also developing “Memetic” for Lionsgate and TV projects at Amazon, HBO Max, Disney+, Peacock, CBS All Access. Ross Richie will executive produce all shows developed through the agreement.
