The other day, Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi hosted a live commentary on Instagram during a watch party for Waititi’s Marvel Studios film “Thor: Ragnarok” – the third film in that particular franchise.
The New Zealand helmer was in post-production on his soccer film “Next Goal Wins” and pre-production on the fourth “Thor” film, “Thor: Love and Thunder,” before the coronavirus pandemic shut much of the industry down.
During the chat, Waititi revealed that he had already done five drafts of the ‘Love and Thunder’ script, actress Tessa Thompson adding that she hasn’t been able to read the latest draft yet.
Waititi also promised a whole new level of craziness: “It’s so over the top now in the very best way. It makes ‘Ragnarok’ seem like a really run of the mill, very safe film… this new film feels like we asked a bunch of ten year olds what should be in a movie and just said yes to everything.”
Waititi also teased the appearance of Space Sharks from the comics, confirmed there is zero chance of a Silver Surfer inclusion, and that the Kronan character of Korg (whom Waititi voices) will be further explored with a look at “a few of the cultural specificities” including “how they procreate”.
Expect Chris Hemsworth’s Thor himself to have slimmed down from “Avengers: Endgame” as Waititi says he feels ‘Fat Thor’ is “done and over”. The filmmaker also showed off a glimpse of artwork from the film, one showing off Miek and part of New Asgard which you can see below.
Finally he confirmed that he will NOT be directing any episodes of the upcoming second season of “The Mandalorian” as he was too busy doing the shoot for “Next Goal Wins” when the new “Mandalorian” season was filming.
