Actor Ahmed Best is best known for playing Jar Jar Binks in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy and has been public about the backlash and hate he received following the release of “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” in 1999.
The character was effectively minimised in the second prequel and reduced to a cameo in the third, but in recent years the prequels have been reconsidered in a better light and there has been questions about what happened to Jar Jar.
One rumor that has cropped up is that the character could appear in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Best recently spoke to Jamie Stangroom and says he would be open to returning as a ‘tragic Jar Jar’ dealing with his guilt over the Empire’s rise. However he has yet to hear from Lucasfilm or anyone involved about reprising his role:
“I haven’t been asked. I just don’t know, to be completely honest I think Jar Jar is something Lucasfilm are trying to move away from, I’m not going to hold my breath for a Jar Jar cameo in Obi-Wan but you know, who knows.”
The series recently went back to the drawing board a bit, and as a result isn’t expected to hit the Disney+ streaming service until sometime in 2022.
