Ryan Gosling is attached both star in and produce a film adaptation of “The Martian” author Andy Weir’s new novel “The Hail Mary” at MGM.
The solitary tale follows an astronaut (Gosling) on a space ship who is tasked with saving the planet, and like “The Martian” it involves some ingenuity and clever twists in order for him to do it. The book will be published next spring.
MGM is in exclusive negotiations to acquire the property which Ken Kao and Michael De Luca will also produce. Weir’s novel “Artemis” has also been setup as a potential project for Phil Lord & Chris Miller.
