With the box-office shutting down around the world, Paramount’s “Sonic the Hedgehog” film was able to race past one final, but crucial, post.
Sonic still managed to earn $2.58 million this past weekend, hitting a total of $145.8 million. That means the film has managed to surpass “Detective Pikachu” and become the highest-grossing video game-to-film adaptation in North America.
Worldwide though, ‘Pikachu’ remains king with $433 million compared to Sonic’s $306.5 million. Part of the reason “Sonic” hasn’t had time to catch up is it has not received a release in China where cinemas were closed due to Coronavirus concerns. Even with those limitations though, it is currently the second-highest-grossing film of 2020.
Costing $95 million to produce, and with the film likely to be a big seller on home video, can a sequel be far off?
