Hulu has launched their new ‘FX on Hulu’ hub today which contains nearly 40 complete series and around 1,600 episodes collecting many of FX’s biggest and most acclaimed shows. All of the FX content is included in Hulu subscribers’ regular plans at no extra charge and effectively replaces the now-defunct FX Plus.
The hub will also include next-day streaming for shows airing on FX’s broadcast network; meaning that new episodes of shows will be available to stream less than 24 hours after they air. This marks Disney’s biggest overhaul of the streaming service since it acquired control over both FX and majority ownership of Hulu in its $71 billion acquisition of 20th Century Fox last year.
The collection includes the likes of “Sons of Anarchy,” “Justified,” “American Horror Story,” “Archer,” “The Shield,” “Nip/Tuck,” “Atlanta,” “Damages,” “Fargo,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “Legion,” “Terriers,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” “The League,” “Rescue Me,” “Taboo,” “Mr. Inbetween,” “The Riches,” “Snowfall,” “The Strain,” “Thief,” “Tyrant,” “You’re the Worst,” “Baskets,” “Fosse/Verdon” & more.
FX on Hulu aims to give Hulu an advantage within an increasingly crowded streaming market, and a strong reason for people to continue subscribing as some licensed content from existing free-to-air and basic cable networks is likely to get pulled off the service by the original production studios for use on their own services such as HBO Max, Peacock and a likely to expand CBS All Access.
That’s partly why some shows, such as “American Crime Story” and “Pose,” aren’t included yet due to pre-existing licensing agreements. Hulu now has more than 30 million subscribers in the United States alone and is bringing in more through the Disney+ deal.
Disney plans to roll out Hulu internationally beginning in 2021 and FX is the crown jewel in Disney’s plan to both keep adult subscribers and make Hulu a major streaming platform both inside and outside the United States.
