Olivia Liang (“Legacies,” “One Day at a Time”) has been cast in the lead role in The CW’s pilot for a reboot of classic TV series “Kung Fu”.
In the new version, a quarter-life crisis causes a young Chinese-American woman, Nicky Chen (Liang), to drop out of college and go on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China.
When she returns to find her hometown overrun with crime and corruption, she uses her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community and bring criminals to justice.
Liang joins the previously cast Tzi Ma (“The Farewell”) and Kheng Hua Tan (“Marco Polo”) as her parents. Christina M. Kim will write and executive produce alongside Martin Gero, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter for Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
