ViacomCBS’ recently formed Entertainment & Youth Studios has signed a major overall production and development deal with “Yellowstone” co-creator and “Wind River” writer-director Taylor Sheridan.
The deal covers multiple projects across the division run by Chris McCarthy, with David Glasser to executive produce all projects under it, and includes both Sheridan’s upcoming scripted drama “Mayor of Kingstown” and an early fourth season renewal for Paramount Network’s flagship series “Yellowstone” – the most-watched 2019 summer series on cable TV.
The Entertainment & Youth Brands unit encompasses MTV, Comedy Central, Paramount Network, Smithsonian Channel, VH1, Pop, CMT, TV Land, Logo and their respective content studios.
Sheridan isn’t the only one making deals though as former “The Walking Dead” and “Black Panther” star Danai Gurira has signed a two-year overall deal with ABC Studios. Under the pact, she will create, develop, write and produce new projects for all of Disney’s multiple platforms.
Gurira is currently serving as showrunner and executive producer on the miniseries “Americanah” which she adapted from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s best-selling novel. That ten-episode project will star Lupita Nyong’o and is being produced for HBO Max.
