Eli Roth To Helm “Borderlands” Film

Eli Roth (“Hostel,” “The House with a Clock in its Walls”) is set to direct the film adaptation of the action video game franchise “Borderlands” at Lionsgate and Picturestart.

Gearbox Software and 2K are behind the open-world game series that began in 2009. Set on the distant and desert-like anarchic planet of Pandora, the games follow a group of augmented mercenaries trying to hunt down an alien vault rumored to contain advanced technology.

They find themselves battling the local wildlife and bandit population, and ultimately attempt to stop the head of a private corporation army from reaching the vault first.

Emmy-winning screenwriter Craig Mazin is penning the script while Avi Arad, Ari Arad, and Erik Feig will produce. The news follows in the wake of the success of “Sonic the Hedgehog” at the box-office recently and the upcoming new “Mortal Kombat” film opening next January.
