“Devs” & “Hunters” Series Reviews Are In

Reviews for two of the most high profile new series to launch in coming weeks have been released, and only one has made the grade.

“Ex Machina” and “Annihilation” helmer Alex Garland’s new limited FX on Hulu mini-series “Devs” has snagged a strong 77/100 on Metacritic and 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, putting it nearly on par with the recent launch of “Star Trek: Picard”.

That series follows Lily Chan (Sonoya Mizuno), a young computer engineer, who thinks a division of the San Francisco tech company she works for may be behind the disappearance of her boyfriend.

Collider has called it a “Gorgeous Existential Mind-Bender”, while Indiewire says it’s a “Contemplative Knockout”.

Not fairing so well though is the Jordan Peele-produced and Al Pacino-led “Hunters” which had landed a more mixed-positive reaction. Coming in at 66/100 on Metacritic and 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Variety says it is “an exercise in genre pastiche, blending ultraviolence with brutally unfunny comedy”. THR says it is a “ballsy, unnerving, entertaining, overreaching show, one likely to provoke and annoy in equal measure”.

The eight-episode “Devs” will release its first two episodes on March 5th on Hulu with subsequent ones coming weekly after that. “Hunters” will premiere on February 21st on Amazon Video.
