It’s official, the upcoming DC Comics adaptation “Birds of Prey” has scored an R rating from the MPAA.
The classification board handed out the Margot Robbie-led film that rating for “strong violence and language throughout, and some sexual and drug material.”
This is a step up from the PG-13 rated “Suicide Squad,” and follows the success Warners had with the R-rated “Joker” this Fall. This suggests the studio is willing to lean into selling itself on its differences from Marvel and its ‘all PG-13 at most’ line-up.
“Birds of Prey” opens in cinemas on February 7th, a week before the Valentine’s Day holiday.
