“Paddington” Team Plan “Pippi Longstocking”

StudioCanal and Heyday Films, who previously paired together on the “Paddington” films, are reuniting for another screen take on an iconic children’s literary figure – Pippi Longstocking, the kind and energetic girl with red pigtails.

First seen in print in 1945 and based on stories by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, the book series has sold more than 65 million copies worldwide and have been adapted for TV and film numerous times.

Heyman says in a statement: “Pippi has endured and inspired families everywhere through her life force, strength of character and her irrepressible joie de vivre. Astrid Lindgren’s books have been translated around the globe for many years – a testament to her vision which we are determined to honour with a new film.”

Jeffrey Clifford and Rosie Alison will produce. The news comes as StudioCanal and Heyday’s adaptation of the beloved novel “The Secret Garden” is readying for release shortly.
