Three breakout stars – in-demand “Killing Eve” actress Jodie Comer, “Stranger Things” big-haired star Joe Keery, and “Get Out” scene-stealer Lil Rel Howery – are all set to join Ryan Reynolds in the video game-focused action-comedy “Free Guy” for 20th Century Fox.
Shawn Levy will direct the project which begins shooting in April and, as a result of this, Levy has dropped off the film adaptation of the “Uncharted” video game series at Sony Pictures. That project is now seeking a new helmer but Tom Holland remains attached to star.
Matt Lieberman penned the script which centers on a background game character who realizes he’s living in a video game. With the help of an avatar named Molotov Girl (Comer), who turns out to be a mousy programmer who created the game but had it stolen from her, he tries to prevent the makers of the game from shutting down his world.
Rel will play Reynolds’ best friend and fellow NPC who doesn’t believe his claims. Keery will play a programmer who may have a secret agenda. Levy, Reynolds, Adam Kolbrenner, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are producing the film.
