Soderbergh’s “Bird” Hits Netflix In February

A press release from the Slamdance Film Festival has revealed that not only will said festival be getting the premiere of Steven Soderbergh’s new sports drama film “High Flying Bird,” but its release date on Netflix has also been set.

Slamdance takes place next month and Soderbergh is being honored with the Founders Award, but in the announcement comes word that the streaming giant will release ‘Bird’ worldwide on the service on February 8th 2019.

Andre Holland (“Moonlight,” “Castle Rock”) stars as a sports agent that attempts to lure his famous rookie professional basketball client into a less-than-savory side deal as the NBA is in a lockout, preventing the players from earning a salary.

Zazie Beetz, Melvin Gregg, Sonja Sohn, Zachary Quinto, Kyle MacLachlan, and Bill Duke co-star. It’s unclear if Netflix has additional theatrical plans for the film, though it’s likely they will for Soderbergh’s Panama Papers film “The Laundromat” due out in late 2019.
