Speaking with Bionic Buzz this week, actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead has confirmed that filming begins in January on the Cathy Yan-directed “Birds of Prey” film.
Margot Robbie is reprising her “Suicide Squad” role of Harley Quinn in the film which sees Winstead playing Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary and Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya who team to take on the villainous Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) who is after a young Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco). Of the shoot, Winstead says:
“It’s sort of a spinoff of Suicide Squad. It kind of follows Harley Quinn, which is Margot Robbie’s character from those films, and this sort of girl gang that she puts together. I play Huntress, and we’ve got Black Canary, played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and Rosie Perez and Ewan McGregor. It’s a really fun, fun cast. We haven’t started shooting yet, but we start shooting in January, and I can’t wait.”
The R-rated feature is penned by Christina Hodson (“Bumblebee”) based on an idea by Robbie. The new project takes priority over a “Suicide Squad” sequel. “Birds of Prey” opens on February 7th 2020.
