SAG-AFTRA has granted approval to 39 independent productions to film during the actor’s strike, films that are not linked to Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) companies. Though a waiver was approved, it does not mean shooting will commence immediately on these projects.
Those granted approval include two projects from arthouse distributor A24 – “Mother Mary” and “Death of a Unicorn”. The former stars Anne Hathaway and could start filming shortly.
The latter stars Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega as a father & daughter who run over a unicorn on the way home. That project is still in deep development and so filming starting soon isn’t likely.
Projects include “Rivals of Amziah King” starring Matthew McConaughey, “Dust Bunny” starring Sigourney Weaver and Mads Mikkelsen, and “Bride Hard” starring Rebel Wilson.
Other titles to make the list are: “Aguadilla,” “Anniversary,” “Armadilla,” “Beneath the Grass,” “Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction,” “Beyond The Walls,” “Bob Trevino Likes It,” “The Cafone,” “A Desert,” “Dream Devil,” “Exhibiting Forgiveness,” “F-PLUS,” “Flight Risk,” “Ganymede,” “The Greatest Ever,” “Ick,” “Just Breathe,” “King Ivory,” “Mourning Rock,” “Osiris,” “Paradise And Lunch,” “Queen Of The Ring,” “The Ritual,” “Sell Out,” “The Short Game,” “Sod And Stubble,” “The Sound,” “The Killer’s Game,” “The Tower,” “Transamazonia,” “Week End Escape Project,” “Weekend Escape,” “and “The Yellow Tie”
The agreements are granted to ‘truly independent producers’ so long as they are not affiliated with AMPTP. They also have to agree to be bound retroactively to whatever contract terms eventually are achieved with the AMPTP when the strike is finally settled.
This follows on from the fourth season of the religious drama “The Chosen,” scoring one of the first waivers allowing them to complete the two weeks remaining of filming on the current season. The project ended up only having to shoot a day or two without a cast before filming resumed.
