“30 Rock” Returns In Upfront Special

“30 Rock” is returning to NBC, albeit only briefly and not in a way you’d expect.

Much like the recently aired new episode of “Parks and Recreation,” the team behind the project are reuniting for a new, original remotely-produced hour-long and commercial-free event that will also double as an upfront special for NBCUniversal properties.

“30 Rock” characters including Liz Lemon (Tina Fey), Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan), Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski), Kenneth Parcell (Jack McBrayer), and more are all returning to tout “the stories and talent featured in NBCUniversal’s 2020-21 television season.”

There will also be guest appearances from talent from across NBCUniversal. Essentially the project sounds like a Fall preview special but in the framework of a “30 Rock” episode.

Unlike other networks who’re holding many show productions back until mid-season, NBC announced its slate this morning will return in the Fall (likely mid-October) with all its biggest series including the new Chris Meloni-led spin-off “Law & Order: Organized Crime” which is the only new series to join the line-up.

Oz Rodriguez (“Saturday Night Live”) will direct the special which will air Thursday July 16th – the day after the wide launch of NBCU’s new service Peacock on Wednesday July 15th.

The event will be re-broadcast across USA, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, SYFY, and CNBC as well as being available to stream on Peacock from that Friday.

Despite ending in 2013, “30 Rock” remains the record-holder for most Emmy nominations in one season for any comedy series and received a total of 103 Emmy nominations over seven seasons on NBC.
