2023 Emmys Looking To Be Delayed

HBO

Vendors for the 75th Primetime Emmys have reportedly been informed that the ceremony will not air on September 18th according to Variety.

This marks the first official word that the ceremony’s date has been pushed. It also marks only the second postponement of the ceremony in Emmys history, the first being the 2001 ceremony delayed into November following the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

The TV Academy and FOX have kept the originally scheduled September 18th date as a placeholder but with only weeks to go, those involved in creating the ceremony need to be informed now if it’s going ahead or will be pushed.

As the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are still continuing and seem months away from a resolution, such a long delay makes sense. The TV Academy said last week in a statement:

“Like the rest of the industry, we hope there will be an equitable and timely resolution for all parties in the current guild negotiations. We continue to monitor the situation closely with our partners at Fox and will advise if and when there is an update available.”

A new date hasn’t been determined and likely won’t be announced until early August. Previously it was reported that FOX is aiming to air the ceremony in January.

HBO’s “Succession,” “The Last of Us” and “The White Lotus” dominated the nominee’s list when it was announced earlier this month.
