2020 Emmys Confirmed As A Remote Affair

Following the nominations yesterday, the Television Academy has confirmed that this year’s Emmy awards are officially going to be a remote affair. As such, don’t expect any nominees to show up at the Microsoft Theatre for the September 20th broadcast.

In a letter mailed out to nominees, they say: “a top notch team of technicians, producers and writers are working closely with Jimmy Kimmel” with the aim to film with the nominees in their homes or another location of their choice. The overall goal is for a “more relaxed, more entertaining, more enjoyable” ceremony.

The 2019 Emmys hit an all-time audience low of just 6.9 million viewers and so a presentation shake-up is in order. Unlike the Oscars or Tonys, the Emmys have been largely unaffected by the COVID-19 pandemic as people have flocked to television during self-isolation.
