Australia’s Umbrella Home Entertainment has announced a lavish 30th anniversary collector’s edition 4K Blu-ray set for 1993’s “Super Mario Bros.” movie.
Set to release in January 2024, the three-disc set will contain an all-new 4K restoration done from the film’s original negative, along with a restored copy of the film’s workprint.
There are also four different audio commentaries with writers, producers, production designers, special effects designers, and film archivists.
Next comes one of the most stacked range of special features seen on a home video release in an age starting with a 200-page book of various script drafts, and a 250-page hardcover book of production art.
There’s also a film cell in a collectable case, reproductions of lobby cards, posters, souvenir magazines, stills, storyboard to screen animatics, original EPK, a bunch of trailers and deleted scenes (all remastered in 4K), archival commercials, Japanese trailers, and multiple all-new featurettes.
The whole set retails for $94 USD/$150 AUD, and can be pre-ordered on Umbrella’s website. Widely panned at the time, the flop has gained a cult following in the year’s since and scored new attention this year thanks to the official “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”.
The film stars the late Bob Hoskins as Mario, John Leguizamo as his brother Luigi, Dennis Hopper as Koopa. Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel directed the film which opened on May 28th 1993.
