With the network upfronts set to begin shortly, time has run out for various TV series ‘on the bubble’ and so cancellations are expected to happen over the next few days.
The bloodbath began in earnest today as fifteen network series have scored the chop, quite a few of them with several seasons under their belt too.
The CW
The CW has gutted much of its line-up with seven more shows getting axed ahead of the network’s potential sale. They began with the reboots of “Charmed” and “Dynasty” which have both been given the axe after four and five seasons respectively.
They didn’t stop there though as “Legacies,” “Roswell, New Mexico” and “In the Dark” have also been canned after four seasons each with the end of “Legacies” now officially closing off “The Vampire Diaries” universe on screen after thirteen years.
That’s not all though as newcomers “4400” and “Naomi” have both been given the axe after one season. They join the previously cancelled “Batwoman” and “Legends of Tomorrow” and leave the network with not a particularly large line-up for next season.
CBS
Over at CBS, five shows have been cut with the big one being the Jay Hernandez-led “Magnum P.I.” reboot which will end after four seasons. Also scoring the axe were comedies “United States of Al” and “B Positive” after two seasons each, along with two freshman shows – bowling comedy “How We Roll” and medical drama “Good Sam”.
NBC
Finally, NBCUniversal took a hatchet to two of its comedies with the Ted Danson-led “Mr. Mayor” and Kenan Thompson’s “Kenan” both cancelled after two seasons each, whilst heist drama “The Endgame” is ending after just one season.
Expect several more series to be hit with abrupt ends in coming days as the major networks rethink their line-ups while streaming continues to dominate the small screen landscape.
