14-Year-Old Created “Spider-Verse” LEGO Scene

In an inspiring true story, it turns out one short early key sequence in the currently in cinemas “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” was created by a fourteen-year-old named Preston Mutanga.

If that name sounds familiar, Mutanga was the one who brilliantly recreated the entire “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” trailer in CG animated LEGO form.

A tweet from CultureCrave confirmed that the entire LEGO segment in the new film was animated by Mutanga who has a YouTube channel stocked with LEGO CGI videos he creates for fun.

“Spider-Verse” co-writer/producer Phil Lord and “Into the Spider-Verse” co-director Peter Ramsay both retweeted that tweet, Lord adding: “The future of animation has arrived!” and Ramsay saying: “A Star is Born. Just incredible. Congrats, Preston!!”.

Mutanga was asked on Twitter if he animated the sequence to which he replied, “(yes)” over a gif of LEGO Batman who is saying in the gif: “I’m sorry, I literally have no idea what you’re talking about”.

The story comes as Sony Pictures has dropped a new featurette going into how “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” pushes the limits of animation with over 1000 animators from around the world working on the movie which is currently in cinemas.
