Doing some early press ahead of its release, “Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2” directors Rich Moore and Phil Johnston have given an early interview to IGN and discussed the use of “Star Wars” elements in the narrative – something they weren’t able to do in the first film in 2012.
The new ‘Ralph’ will include C-3PO, TIE Fighters, X-Wings, and Stormtroopers, but one thing we won’t be getting? A Kylo Ren burn. Moore tells the outlet that they had an idea for a joke making fun of Adam Driver’s villain character, but Lucasfilm didn’t approve:
“At one point we had a joke about Kylo Ren being kind of a spoiled child. We went to Lucasfilm and said, here’s what we’re doing. And they said, well, we’d prefer that you don’t show him as a spoiled child. You know, he is our villain, and we’d prefer you don’t do that. So we were respectful of that.”
The sequel has already come under fire for making the skin tone on Princess Tiana lighter and giving her a smaller nose from the original animated version in “The Princess and the Frog,” leading to animators to work with voice actress Anika Noni Rose to make sure her character look more like she did in the past.
“Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2” opens on November 21st.
