DC Entertainment president and CCO Geoff Johns has unveiled a tease on social media that hints at the 1980s setting for the upcoming “Wonder Woman” sequel.
Johns, who is also a writer and producer on the film, teased ‘WW84’ which lines up with reports of the film’s 1980s Cold War setting – 1984 being in the midst of fears over the U.S. and U.S.S.R. coming to blows and engaging in nuclear warfare.
That’s many years after the first “Wonder Woman” film which was set in 1917 during World War I. Director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot are returning and are joined by Kristen Wiig as the villain Cheetah, along with Pedro Pascal. Jenkins, Johns and Dave Callaham penned the script.
“Wonder Woman 2” is targeting a November 1st 2019 release.
