Warner Bros. Pictures has hired scribes Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald to pen “The Trench,” a horror-tinged script centered on the deadly amphibious creatures seen in the studio’s billion-dollar hit “Aquaman”.
Introduced in 2011, the creatures are revealed to be part of the kingdom of Atlantis. When it sunk, inhabitants who were cut off from other survivors and evolved into ravenous monsters.
The story will be set in the kingdom of the Trench and will not feature the main cast of “Aquaman”. Wan and Peter Safran will produce the project which plans to be more modestly budgeted than the normal DC superhero tentpole.
There’s no talk of a direct “Aquaman” sequel at this point as director James Wan and star Jason Momoa take a break, though it is no doubt coming.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment have set a March 5th Digital HD and a March 26th disc and rental VOD release for “Aquaman”. Special features include nearly a dozen featurettes about the movie’s crafting and an exclusive peek of “Shazam”.
