Vin Diesel: “xXx 3” First Cut Is “Too Short”

Filming on the third film in the “xXx” franchise wrapped a while back with post-production on the Vin Diesel-led action feature currently in full swing. Diesel also serves as a producer on the film and so, much like with the upcoming “Fast 8,” has a big say in the creative side of the movie.

It’s that side of his job today which posted a new video on his social media channels and confirms that, following a marketing meeting with Paramount, they’re re-tooling of the current cut of “xXx: Return of Xander Cage”. However, the changes aren’t what you’d expect:

“[Paramount] is so poised to do something so amazing with XXX. I was speechless after watching the movie. I felt like its been a long time coming. The spirit of individuality that plays in the movie is kind of refreshing and kind of timely… I mean the cast is sensational. You could see why they were all having so much fun, and why we had so much fun making the movie.

I don’t want to say anything negative, but I have to be honest. If there was one complaint I had about xXx the first cut, it’s too short. I wanted moreā€¦ When people have been waiting fifteen years for this franchise to return, you can’t just give them an hour and a half. It’s not fair because you just want more.”

Instead of focusing on the titular hero, the new film is more a team-based effort like the “Fast and Furious” franchise – extreme athletes hired for a covert mission. Vin Diesel and Samuel L. Jackson reprise their roles from the first film and are joined by Toni Collette, Tony Jaa, Nina Dobrev, Rory McCann, Donnie Yen, and Ruby Rose.

“xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” is still on track for a January 20th 2017 opening.
