Paramount and Hasbro’s “Transformers: The Last Knight” better hope those overseas dollars keep rolling in as the film is off to a disappointing start at the box-office in North America.
Following a $15 million opening day on Wednesday, the movie dropped to $8.1 million on Thursday. Based on these numbers, the film is looking unlikely to clear $60 million over its first five days – significantly down on the $100 million three-day haul of “Transformers: Age of Extinction” in 2014 and the lowest in the series to date.
Globally is where the film needs to make coin. ‘Age of Extinction’ ultimately made $245 million domestic, but garnered $858 million overseas. Its domestic total will be certainly below that amount, whether the global tally will suffer as significant a hit – we’ll have to wait and see.
The film’s production budget reportedly comes in at $217 million, and that’s before marketing spend.
