Earlier this year came rumors that Taika Waititi’s “Thor: Ragnarok” would incorporate certain elements of the comic book storyline “Planet Hulk,” something speculation was rife about when it confirmed that Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk would be in the film.
In ensuing months we’ve seen sketches of Hulk’s gladiator armor, and confirmation that the Miek character from the storyline will be featured. Today, a story in Total Film magazine has gone up on Twitter and confirmed that the planet of Sakaar from the storyline will also be featured in ‘Ragnarok’.
The mag spoke with Waititi who indicates Sakaar is where Thor (Chris Hemsworth) reunites with his fellow Avenger Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) with the latter having made a name for himself as a gladiator. Waititi also indicates Jack Kirby’s work influenced the design of the film:
“Sakaar was just an insane, far-off, furutistic place which was the biggest shift for the film and these characters. I was really excited when Kevin and the rest of Marvel jumped on board with the idea to use Kirby as a big influence in the design of the film. What’s really hard is staying authentic.”
Marvel has set a November 3rd 2017 release for the next ‘Thor’.
