A last-minute cancellation of a FanX panel in Salt Lake City has led to speculation about a specific cameo in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” feature.
Actors Hayden Christensen and Ian McDiarmid, who played Anakin Skywalker and Chancellor Palpatine respectively in the “Star Wars” prequels, were scheduled to appear at the convention and were photographed visiting a children’s hospital together over the weekend.
The sudden scrapping of the panel, less than two hours before it was scheduled to begin, has quickly prompted talk that it was for some sudden “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” filming or fear that one of the two might possibly leak spoilers from the highly secretive film.
McDiarmid’s return to the role of The Emperor in the new film is confirmed, but the nature of his return is unclear. Christensen’s potential involvement hasn’t been previously discussed. Truth Be Told, which was at the con, says the convention was contacted by Disney and “said they weren’t going to allow them to do a panel, they couldn’t do Q&A they couldn’t do photo ops on the stage.” They add Disney would not explain why.
