“Sinbad” Is Getting A Live-Action Film Reboot

Studio 8 has won a bidding war for the live-action fantasy project “Sinbad,” a new adaptation of one of literature’s most enduring fantasy heroes.

First appearing in stories from the Middle East that were introduced to Western readers in The Arabian Nights, the Sinbad tales followed the rising and falling fortunes of a wily sailor who finds himself stranded on various islands or lands.

After each adventure, he returns to his native Baghdad a wealthy man. The story has been adapted numerous times from 1958’s “The 7th Voyage of Sinbad” which boasts effects by Ray Harryhausen, to 2002’s Dreamworks Animated feature.

Kyle Killen (“Lone Star,” “The Beaver”) will pen the script while Miguel Sapochnik (“Game of Thrones,” “True Detective”) is attached to direct. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman (“Divergent,” “The Fight”) will produce.
