Production is continuing on “The Sopranos” prequel movie “The Many Saints of Newark” and the first set photos have gone online featuring James Gandolfini’s son Michael playing the role of a young Tony Soprano.
The story is set in the era of the Newark riots in the 1960s, when the African Americans and the Italians of Newark were at each other’s throats. Alessandro Nivola, Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, Corey Stoll, Ray Liotta, Billy Magnussen, John Magaro and Leslie Odom, Jr. all star.
The action focuses on Dickie Moltisanti, a mentor to young Tony as his own father, Johnny Boy, was grooming his son on a pathway to organized crime prominence. Alan Taylor helms the film which show creator David Chase penned and the movie opens next Fall.
