Unsurprisingly, Russia has banned “Veep” and “The Thick of It” creator Armando Iannucci’s dark comedy “The Death of Stalin” from being shown in local cinemas.
Previously set for a limited release in theaters, a Russian culture ministry spokeswoman said the film is being pulled for containing “information whose distribution is legally banned in Russia.”
The film depicts Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin’s final days and the chaos that ensues following his death. Steve Buscemi, Jason Isaacs, Rupert Friend, Andrea Riseborough, and Jeffrey Tambor co-star.
Responding to the ban, Iannucci writes on Twitter: “We still remain hopeful. I’ll keep you all posted”. The film opens in U.S. cinemas on March 9th.
