“Avengers: Infinity War” directors Anthony and Joe Russo have recently revealed that there could be more appearances from “Captain America: The First Avenger” villain Red Skull in future Marvel Studios films.
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR”
During a recent fan Q&A held on Twitter to promote the ‘Infinity War’ home release, the pair were asked about what happens to the character of Red Skull now that Thanos has taken the Soul Stone. They say: “Red Skull is free to leave Vormir, and he is also free to pursue his desire for an Infinity Stone,”
The character vanished at the end of “Captain America: The First Avenger,” blasted into space. The Space Stone ultimately transported Red Skull to Vormir, where he spent the next 73 years serving as keeper of the Soul Stone. While Hugo Weaving played him in the first “Captain America” film, it was “The Walking Dead” regular Ross Marquand who took over in ‘Infinity War’ and probably would do so again for subsequent appearances.
With Thanos having taken it, Red Skull is now open to return in future films. Previously writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus, who penned all three “Captain America” movies, say they had ‘a fetish’ for bringing the Red Skull back to the MCU.
“Avengers: Infinity War” is now available for purchase digitally and arrives on Blu-ray on August 14th.
