First announced back in May last year, Netflix has come along to pick up “The Baby-Sitters Club,” a new family-friendly TV series adaptation of Ann M. Martin’s popular book series. Walden Media and Michael De Luca Productions are producing.
The books follow a group of friends who live in the fictional town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut. The young group of girls run a local babysitting service and confront common problems such as divorce, racism, inclusion, jealousy, sibling rivalry, peer conflicts, and family issues.
Lucia Aniello (“Broad City”) and Rachel Shukert (“GLOW”) will direct and executive produce. The book series, published by Scholastic between 1986 and 2000, sold around 180 million copies to date and was adapted into both an early 1990s HBO series and a 1995 feature film.
