Mendelsohn’s “Captain Marvel” Role Revealed?

A new report has seemingly revealed the identity of the villain of “Captain Marvel,” the upcoming first female superhero feature to come out of Marvel Studios.

Ben Mendelsohn was recently cast as the villain of the project, but his character’s identity was being kept under wraps. That’s changed today with That Hashtag Show reporting that the Aussie actor will be playing Yon-Rogg.

In the comics Yon-Rogg was a Kree warrior, a military commander captaining the ship Helion. His powers include super-strength, agility, and stamina, but his weakness was his envy of the success of others. It was Yon-Rogg’s attempts to kill his rival in love Mar-Vell that ultimately lead to Air Force pilot Carol Danvers acquiring the Kree abilities that would turn her into Captain Marvel.

The original script by Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve was said to follow the story closely, but there have been rewrites since by Geneva Robertson-Dworet that may have changed that. Brie Larson is onboard as Danvers while Jude Law was recently cast as Mar-Vell.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck helm the project and filming is slated to begin sometime next year ahead of a March 2019 release.
