With “Vice” about to hit cinemas, filmmaker Adam McKay (“Anchorman,” “The Big Short”) is doing some quick pre-holiday press and during those interviews he talked about future projects including the possibility of a Marvel Studios film.
When Edgar Wright left the first “Ant-Man,” McKay was brought onboard by Paul Rudd and director Peyton Reed to help out with the script. He then did some script work on this year’s follow-up “Ant-Man and the Wasp”. This leads to the obvious question as to whether McKay would direct a Marvel Studios film and asked again this week about it on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he says:
“‘Silver Surfer’ is the one I want to do, man. I would do anything to do ‘Silver Surfer’ because, visually, you could do what the Wachowskis did with ‘Speed Racer’ with the ‘Silver Surfer’. At the same time, there’s a great emotional story in there, man, where Norrin Radd [aka Silver Surfer] has to make the choice to save his planet. That would be the one.”
McKay also admitted that studio president Kevin Feige approached him about the vacated “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” directing gig:
“We’ve talked a little bit [about ‘Guardians 3’]. Yeah. We were kicking around the idea of the ‘Inhumans’ at one point. We’re always kind of talking. I think Feige is just the greatest and what they’re doing is amazing… I think they’re kicking around a Nova idea now too.”
With much of Marvel’s slate post “Avengers 4” still under wraps, McKay’s involvement could happen sooner than you might think.
