Last week, Marvel announced that the series “New Warriors” was in the works at Freeform, a show aimed at a younger audience.
The story follows a group of teenage superheroes dealing with normal teenage problems as well as their growing powers and responsibilities. Freeform programming VP Karey Burke recently spoke with THR about the currently in pre-production series and confirmed spin-offs are quite possible:
“Absolutely. The characters they’ve chosen are all really singular and could each carry the show that they’re on. They’re bound together as a band of underdogs for as long as we choose with this show, but it’s conceptually tailor-made for spin-offs.”
It’s currently unclear whether New Warriors will fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Burke admits a link with Freeform’s other new Marvel show “Cloak and Dagger” series is possible despite wildly different tones.
