Joachim Ronning (“Kon-Tiki,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”) is reportedly in talks to direct the “Maleficent” sequel for Disney Pictures.
Angeline Jolie will return to star as the Disney villain from the “Sleeping Beauty” story. The 2014 first “Maleficent” grossed $758 million at the global box office.
Robert Stromberg directed the first installment, which also starred Elle Fanning. Jez Butterworth and Linda Woolverton penned the screenplay for the follow-up.
Also comes word today thaty “Mudbound” director Dee Rees will helm “An Uncivil War” which chronicles the battle to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s.
The movie will focus on efforts by feminist activist and journalist Gloria Steinem, lawyer and activist Florynce Kennedy, and others to ratify the ERA, while conservative organizer Phyllis Schlafly advocates against it.
Casting on the film is underway with the aim of shooting in the first quarter of 2018. FilmNation Entertainment is fully financing.
