Former WWE champion and “Blockers” star John Cena is being lined up to join the ninth “Fast and the Furious” film at Universal Pictures.
In an Instagram post on Friday, Vin Diesel says he thinks the late great Paul Walker (whom he nicknames ‘Pablo’) has been sending him new ‘Fast & Furious’ cast members since he passed away.
In the post, Diesel says: “I know this sounds crazy, but every blue moon I feel like Pablo up there sends me someone, another soldier for the fight for truth… and today someone came by the Toretto Gym that speaks to what Pablo would’ve brought me.” He then turns the camera to reveal a smiling John Cena.
Cena’s former in-ring rival Dwayne Johnson joined the ‘Furious’ franchise back with “Fast Five”. However, with his commitments to the spin-off “Hobbs & Shaw” and other projects, Johnson isn’t returning for the ninth ‘Furious’ and so Cena’s character could be stepping in to fill that void.
Johnson indicated earlier this year he’s up for returning for the tenth and apparently final film as “look, at the end of the day, the truth is there’s unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom… it’s unfinished” he said.
