Universal Cable Productions has done a development deal with famed filmmaker John Carpenter which will see him and his producing partner Sandy King executive produce scripted programming for the company.
Resulting efforts will be for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment along with external networks and streaming services. Already in development is Syfy’s “Tales for a Halloween Night” based on Carpenter’s award-winning graphic novel anthology of stories. A search for a writer is underway.
The comic brings together storytellers from the worlds of movies, novels, and comics for a collection of horror stories featuring graveyards, sunken ships, creepy crawlers and ghosts.
Also on the way is “Nightside,” based on Simon R. Green’s literary series Jill Blotevogel (“Scream: The TV Series”) is attached to write the script.
The story is set in the secret heart of London which is beating to its own rhythm, pumping lifeblood through the veins of its streets and alleys, hidden in eternal darkness where creatures of the night congregate and where the sun is afraid to shine
In a press release, Carpenter says: “I’m excited to partner with Universal Cable Productions on this venture into television. On one hand it’s a return home to Universal where I have fond memories, and on the other it’s a step into the future with great new creative partners in programming.”
