Filmmaker James Gunn has confirmed that his upcoming “The Suicide Squad” film has been “fully cast” and that a table read for the project occurred the other day.
He adds on Twitter: “I was, truly, blown away by the amount of talent in the room. Holy cow.” It’s expected a few lingering names not yet revealed will emerge shortly.
Gunn’s film is scheduled to begin shooting later this month in Atlanta and will serve as something of a follow-up and minor reboot of the franchise following the mixed critical reaction but solid box-office success of the 2016 film.
The DC Comics adaptation currently stars Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, Flula Borg, Nathan Fillion, David Dastmalchian, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Daniela Melchior and Taika Waititi along with returnees Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis and Joel Kinnaman. John Cena and Benicio del Toro are also rumored.
“The Suicide Squad” will open in cinemas in 2021.
